MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Inter-Provincial Driver to join our team. Our drivers play a crucial role in ensuring the timely and safe delivery of retail stock to our stores across the country.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Operational Efficiency
- Plan and follow efficient routes to ensure timely deliveries.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to prevent breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate and up to date log books, including details of routes, driving hours, and rest periods.
Safety and Compliance
- Communicate effectively with the warehouse manager, providing updates on delivery status.
- Safely operate company vehicles to deliver retail stock to various destinations across provinces.
- Adhere to all road safety regulations and company policies.
- Report any vehicle defects, accidents, or delays promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport and delivery regulations.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate delivery and mileage records.
- Ensure all delivery documentation is completed correctly and submitted promptly.
- Record and report any incidents, accidents, or deviations from planned routes.
Stock Handling
- Load and unload stock, ensuring goods are handled with care and according to company guidelines.
- Inspect stock for damages or discrepancies during loading and unloading.
- Report back on discrepancies if any are found
- Verify delivery orders and ensure all stock items match the delivery documentation.
- Follow proper procedures for handling, stacking, and securing goods to prevent damage during transit.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in long-distance or inter provincial deliveries.
- Familiarity with GPS devices and map applications.
- Ability to handle heavy lifting and physical tasks related to loading and unloading stock.
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Knowledge of provincial routes and regulations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
